The group that makes the magic happen in Bay St. Louis is the dedicated group of number crunchers, customer service representatives, and organizers that make up the Municipal Clerk/Finance Offices team of public servants.  The greatest accomplishment of the last several months has been to bring 21st century technology to local governmental accounting, increasing efficiency in operations and regular account reporting to the City Council and citizens.

Financial rules of the state and federal government change almost daily.  It is a constant challenge for the department to meet all the reporting and audit expectations of the various agencies with which the city does business.  The benefits of Katrina recovery dollars place the highest level of accountability ever expected on small communities.  While Community Development and Public Works oversee project construction, it is the Municipal Clerk and Comptroller that oversee the dollars coming in and going out to engineers, architects, contractors, and others for all of these multi-million dollar projects.

In addition to managing the financial end of these once-in-a-lifetime projects for the city, the finance department provides customer service to more than 3000 utility service customers, 400 vendors, hundreds of people going through the municipal court system, and 150 plus full and part-time city employees.
